So I’ve been sewing for a year now and have only participated in one sewing challenge – #30projectschallenge2018 by The Sewing Network (Singapore). As the name suggests, it’s basically a challenge to make 30 different projects from 28 May to 31 December 2018. I’ve made more than 30 projects all in all, ranging from garments like dresses, tops, and button-down shirts, to crafts like reversible tote bags, pencil cases, and PU leather coin purses.
I’m planning to join more sewing challenges this year, because it’s fun and gives one some sense of direction. However, I do have one problem. In one year of sewing, I’ve accumulated 3 drawers full of fabric in my stash. I recently organised everything and I’m estimating about 85 yards of fabric just sitting in the drawers while I keep buying more and more fabric. So for this year, my personal sewing challenge is:
1. To reduce my stash by at least half. By December 2019, I should only have one and a half drawers full of fabric. I don’t want to be a hoarder – I just don’t have space for it.
2. To use up all of the patterns I’ve bought in 2018. I have about 20 patterns sitting around in my laptop or on my binder. I want to use up all of these by the end of 2019.
3. To make at last 100 projects this year. This is the #100projects2019 by @simplyjocreations. I was able to make 30 projects in 6 months so I think I should be able to do it. Here’s a rundown of the projects I’ve planned so far:
For my husband:
- pajama – using blue striped lightweight cotton that I already have
- button down shirt – using Fairfield pattern by Thread Theory and a navy blue shirting cotton that I already have
For myself:
- makeup pouch – using black and white striped floral fabric remnants
- shorts – using Ultimate Trousers pattern by Sew Over It and floral cotton spandex that I already have
- pants – using Ultimate Trousers pattern by Sew Over It and navy blue cotton spandex that I already have
- top – using Susie Blouse pattern by Sew Over It
- peplum top – using a McCall pattern I already have
- gray skirt – using an existing Michael Miller fabric I already have
- white dress with wooden buttons – using white cotton sateen I already have
For my five-year-old daughter:
- unicorn raincoat – using a unicorn umbrella fabric I already have)
- off-shoulder dress – using Midsummer Dream pattern from Striped Swallow Designs and flamingo Japanese cotton that I already have
- gray skirt – using an existing Michael Miller fabric I already have
For my one-year-old son:
- pajama – using blue striped lightweight cotton that I already have
- reversible bibs – using fabric remnants
For others:
- seat covers for my sister
- off-shoulder dress for my niece – using Midsummer Dream pattern from Striped Swallow Designs)
- jumper for my sister-in-law – using Be Smart Jumper pattern from Ellie and Mac and cotton spandex that I already have
- clear book cover for my dad – using brown PU leather
- coin purse for my brother – using brown PU leather
