Welcome to my blog! I’ve been sewing for one year now – and what a year it has been.
Before I started sewing, one of the items on my bucket list is to learn how to sew to make matching clothes for me and my then four-year-old daughter Lia.
As with most things in my bucket list, I never really actively did anything about it until my husband Sidney gave me a sewing machine for Christmas 2017. I’ve since embarked on this new hobby with more enthusiasm than skill – bravely taking on projects guided only by YouTube tutorials. I’ve also tried to recall what I learned from my home economics class more than two decades ago, and asked for tips from my mom.
I was initially worried about whether I’d stick with this hobby or not, so I bought the cheapest sewing machine from Spotlight, which was a Semco Indigo 6 for SGD129. The machine was okay to learn with – it was very basic – but it can’t handle many layers, and it skips stitches often.
A few months after, my mom visited me in Singapore and took my sewing machine home to the Philippines. That gave me an excuse to upgrade to a Juki HZL-355ZW-C, which I bought from Ghim Soon Machinery Pte Ltd for SGD299. I’ve had this Juki for about 7 months now, and I’m still pretty happy with it.
I’ve had my share of fails but I did make things that turned out okay and made me really happy. So this is my blog to document my sewing journey.
